An ETA is an Electronic Travel Authority Visa (hence the name, ETA) and it is equivalent to a regular visa except that there is no stamp or label in your passport and there is no need for you to visit an Australian diplomatic office to submit an application.

Approved applications are electronically recorded and stored on the Australian Government database systems.
